Dreamweaver locks up on color picker

Suddenly, Dreamweaver MX (version 6, not MX2004) is getting stuck whenever I (Mac OS X Panther 10.3.9) try to use the color picker.

The color picker palette opens, I can change palette style, the eyedropper appears and colors rolled over appear as usual in the preview window, but I can't select anything by letting go of the button. The little color picker window just stays open and the only escape is suicide, force quit the app. Other apps (Photoshop, Fireworks) that use the same color picker are fine. I tried trashing Dreamweaver prefs, I even reinstalled it, but no change. I found a related technote at macromedia.com for the MX2004 version, but that doesn't involve a lockup of the app, just forcing the user to choose from the palette. Any ideas where to look for trouble?

uninstall, then reinstall. It sounds like a program file got corrupted. Either that, or something even weirder.

Yeah, I trashed the program and prefs and reinstalled from the disk. The problem remains. I can make do temporarily by only entering hex values manually, then I suppose it's Open Source, ahoy.
