What are your favorite hikes in Shasta Trinity National Forest?
Some friends and I are camping in a yurt at Lakeshore East campground in Shasta Trinity National Forest in Northern California this weekend, and are looking for some hikes. In particular we're looking for: views/vistas, lots of green, ferns, hot springs, moderate hikes that would take a day or less.
Thanks in advance for sharing your favorites!!

I grew up there and second Castle Crags.
Most of the other "hikes" we did when I was a kid were kind of ad hoc, off the trail, deals ("Let's climb Bear Mountain and throw rocks off the top."). Sorry.
You're unlikely to find lots of ferns (it's too dry there), nor many hot springs (Mt Lassen to the east, however...). The Forest Service page on the area has some info on local trails.
If you like dark places, visit Lake Shasta Caverns.
