What is the smell at Bank station?

Westbound on the Central Line, approaching Bank station there has been, for the last few months a smell of burned garlic, with a faint medicinal note. What is it and when will it go away?

Best answer: It has also been mentioned at a London Underground forums where they say this:

I had a customer inform me of the 'gassy' smell so I spoke to the Controller. I was told that it was grease, to eliminate the wheel screech at Bank Westbound. HTH...
