The caps lock light on my two-year-old Macbook keeps blinking back on, but yet caps lock is not actually activated...

Lately, I kept noticing that the caps lock light on my Macbook was on. I would shut it off and it would come back again. A couple days ago, I realized that even though the light keeps flicking back on, it's not actually in caps lock mode, and I got tired of the whack-a-mole and left it. But it's kind of annoying. What's going on here? Is there a fix? Google-fu failed me. I found a bunch of stuff that was almost, but not quite my problem.

Best answer: Does it still do that if you go into System Preferences > Keyboard and disable the caps lock key entirely? (Slightly more detailed instructions)

My 2010 MBP does that too! It happens especially when I plug something in to the USB port near the caps lock key.

I've seen this on other boxes with the numlock key. Do you have an app installs that uses the caps lock indicator light to alert you of something?

On older macs if you mapped caps lock to control the light would still toggle as it was controlled by the hardware that wasn't aware of the software remapping. The one I had that did this was a Core 2 Duo MBP, similar to this.
My newer MBP doesn't do this.
