Help me find this creepy teen novel

I am looking for the title of a YA novel from the 80s, in which a young girl is selected for an exclusive private school, where all of the students have a telepathic gift of some kind. What happens is that the spirits of dead artists and thinkers contact the girls and the girls serve as their channels, producing more "original" work. I think one of the artists was Chopin. Of course, psychic possession hijinks ensue. I like to think that I am an excellent Googler, but I can't find this book. Anyone? Anyone?

Best answer: Update: I bought the book from Amazon and it was pretty much as good as I remembered, except: the author and publisher have "updated" it from its original 1974 version to reflect modern times. As far I could tell, all they did was throw in a few lines about email and cellphones, but it was awkward and a little jarring. Then again, someone who was picking it up for the first time would probz not notice the awkwardness, except that yeah, the telepathic students have cellies and laptops, but there is no service at the creepy school which is why they can't let anyone know that things are getting crazy!

I'd see the movie if it ever gets made.
