Who wears short shorts?

Where online can I purchase cute (colorful, retro-ish with piping) cotton gym shorts a la American Apparel not actually from American Apparel?

Back in the day before I started boycotting AA, I really liked their running shorts (another image of them here in case the regional redirecting at AA's site makes linking to the specific item impossible). I like them because they're all-cotton (Important! I use these shorts to lift weights in so I can't have slippery material on my thighs) and breathable as well as cuter than most gym/running apparel (I loved that they came in lots of bright colors, the retro piping and the rounded cut at the bottom, and the way they fit pretty snugly). I really need to replace the poor sole pair I have left before they disintegrate, but don't know if anyone besides AA makes this type of thing. I know there are lots of AA t-shirt clone shops with less squicky CEOs, so I'm crossing my fingers someone knows of similar for shorts, or just simply some other shop online with this kind of clothing.

How about these Alternative Apparel shorts? Eco-heather is a combination of cotton, polyester, and rayon. I'm not sure about the proportions, but I believe it's mostly cotton.

I'm wrong. It's 50% polyester, 38% cotton, and 12% rayon (6.25% organic cotton, 6.25% recycled polyester.)

What about Soffe? The shorts with the retro piping are a 50/50 blend but some of their others are 100% cotton. And you could get crafty and sew on your own piping!

Just a thought - contact a company that sells custom t-shirts, i.e. a screenprinter - and ask to look at their athletic catalogs. AA and some of the other companies mentioned here sell to these kinds of companies, and they're more accustomed to special-ordering stuff than a retailer.
