Getting VirtualDub to see x264vfw.

Any tips for getting VirtualDub to "see" encoders? Win7 64-bit.

I'm trying to use the 64-bit version of VirtualDub to use x264vfw. I've installed the encoder and opened up VB and it doesn't show up in the list of encoders. Restarted the computer, uninstalled and reinstalled the encoder, can't really think of anything else. I also took a shot at installing ffdshow, but couldn't find any binaries for it and I'd have no idea how to compile from source, so I gave up on that front. Googling hasn't yielded any answers. Do I need to create a registry key or something?

Are you using the 64 bit version of x264vfw? If you only have the 32 bit version installed the 64 bit VirtualDub won't see it.

Response by poster: Yes, sorry, I thought I'd written the question clearer than I actually had - I've triple-checked to make sure that I'm using 64-bit versions of both.

Suppose for a minute this becomes something that isn't worth the time to troubleshoot. Are you bound to using VFW? Could you either render the clip to lossless first and encode/pipe with ffmpeg to x264, or feed the clip to x264 through Avisynth?
