Resource for itinerant freelancers?

I often find myself in places where I don't know players in the local pro scene (assuming there is one). For example I have had limited success with sites such as LinkedIn and facebook in trying to find potential chamber music partners in Portland for a sightreading session at short notice. Is there a good website for making connections between like-minded people who enjoy making music for fun at the highest level? If not, is this something that would attract any interest from others, not that many classically-trained musicians necessarily read mefi?

Have you tried instrument-specific boards like this one?

Have you found the ACMP (US-based Association of Chamber Music Players)? List yourself on there as "A" ability, and you may find similar players nearby. It's not so useful for those of us in Europe, but might be helpful for you.

If I were nearby I'd totally be interested. I'm not a pro player but I sight-read at a similar level (on viola).
