But I know they're not Lost in the Trees

I heard this band I really liked when I was at work around 11pm central standard time, on Jimmy Fallon, two Fridays ago. They were a mostly African American band playing rock. I had my husband check the cable guide when he got home and he says that they were a band called Lost in the Trees. I looked them up and they are a white blue grass band. My google-fu has failed me. Who was this band I liked so much?

Are you sure you're not thinking of the house band, The Roots?

(Who by the way, have an extensive catalog dating back to well before their start on Jimmy Fallon's show.)

Yes, my guess would be The Roots as well. This is assuming that you've only seen Fallon's show once, and that one time was the one you mentioned. This is understandable.

Indubitably, you saw the The Roots.

Now that this is answered, here's my Jimmy Fallon Insider Tip: At the beginning of the show as the Roots close out the theme song, Questlove yells out a number (and sometimes a city or other random phrase). This is in fact the episode number, and the city he says has that number as an area code.

The more you know.

Was it TV on the Radio?

If not the Roots, was it TV on the Radio? It would've been a re-run of the Jimmy Fallon show, but they're an amazing, mostly African-American rock band!

Oh, and as far as the TV guide, Lost in the Trees would have been playing a song at the end of the show as that night's musical guest.

TV on the Radio has a new album out that they are promoting, and I believe most of its musicians are black.

The Roots. (Philly represent! We're very proud, even while being somewhat puzzled that they're Jimmy Fallon's house band.)

Best answer: It's probably worth commenting (given all the mention of rock), that The Roots are really a hip-hop outfit, which is why Fallon & Timberlake's History of Rap and History of Rap 2 are so damn in the pocket. You can't go wrong with ?uestlove behind you...
