Help me find this book on home building

Out of print architecture book with design principles for the home?
I remember seeing an out of print book on Metafilter that deals with home building principles. It tries to find a 'quality that can't be named' or 'can't be defined', something like that. Google seems to think I want to build a passive home.

Response by poster: It was 'A Timeless Way of Building', by the same author as 'Pattern Language'. Thanks, lollusc.

"A Pattern Language" and "The Timeless Way of Building" were both written by Christopher Alexander. [wiki]
