Help me find this book on home building

Out of print architecture book with design principles for the home?

I remember seeing an out of print book on Metafilter that deals with home building principles. It tries to find a 'quality that can't be named' or 'can't be defined', something like that. Google seems to think I want to build a passive home.

Best answer: The one metafilter always recommends is "A pattern language". But I don't think it's out of print.
