How to move songs in a playlist to an external drive on a Mac?

How to move a single playlist worth of music from my iMac to an external drive... ?

I have a playlist with 8000+ songs in it. I want the songs on an external hard drive. I do not care about the "playlist" features of the list (order of songs, playcount, etc.)

The playlist only exists as a collection of songs I want to put on the drive.

It appears Apple doesn't like external drives and only wants to let me move it to a dvd or cd.

Any suggestions?

Open the playlist in iTunes.
Select all the files you want to copy.
Drag these songs to the target drive.

Tried that. It didn't work. It gives every indicationt that it's going to work (green + sign when over the drive) but when I let it go, nothing happens.

Crap. It works if I do it in small bunches instead of all at once. Grrr.

Thanks 3wayHS.

This looks like a similar issue.
