Festivals / must sees within an evenings train ride from Amsterdam?
Is there any big cultural event/happening/"once in a lifetime" thing happening within an evenings train ride from Amsterdam in the immediate future? We've planned to stay in Amsterdam for the first half of our vacation with the idea of "We'll figure something else out for the 2nd week". With travel time considerations and being back in Amsterdam for our return trip we basically have the 7th-9th of March to go somewhere and do something. What MUST we do, where MUST we go?
Huge crowds & drinking & religion really aren't our thing. We're thinking about heading to Copenhagen, because there's some loose family ties there. Travelling outside of the Netherlands is the goal, but if it's in country is fine too, as long as it's awesome. Anything we can just observe, photograph and enjoy being with each other during is kind of what I'm looking for.

I asked a similar question almost on the same day last year. Weird!
The Amsterdam reply was to go see the Keukenhof. Thier web page appears to be down right now but a Google cached version shows it opening on March 24 2011.
If that seems a bit fuddy-duddy check here for more listings.

You can go to the south of Holland and celebrate carnival, though I believe that the big parade in Maastricht is on the 6th.
