Help my find my Wiki!

Where can I find a private/personal (just me) type Wiki Database to organize my writing projects?

I use our Wiki Database at work where we keep all of our standard content for marketing.

However, I want to find some sort of database that I can use to organize my personal projects. I've looked at Wiki and Wikidot and Wiki you have to pay for privacy and Wikidot seems like its geared more towards creating web pages.

Does anyone have a solution or know of another product that is good for this? I would mainly use it to organize fiction, such as characters, stories, techniques, things I've learned etc. I don't mind paying for software either, I already use Evernote, OminFocus, and some other writing specific software like Storymill so I'm looking for something very specific like a Wiki Database because I like the look, feel, and usability. Also I would prefer paying a one-time fee rather than ongoing like Wiki would be (a least I think it is.)

You can set up a standalone of Wikimedia on a PC: here's LifeHacker's instructions on how to do it.

I have a private Wiki for almost identical reasons as you -- it's on a webserver I control, and all I did was set the .htaccess to require a password so that nobody else can see it. If you have access to a webserver with PHP and MySQL, you can install Wikimedia on it.

PBworks seems like it would fit the bill.

How about Scrivener?

You could try something like Drupal. The software itself is free, but you'd have to have the site hosted somewhere, which would involve some cost. I've been using Drupal as a way to keep all my recipes recorded/organized so that I can look them up easily at home, and also when I'm out shopping, on my phone.

If you want super simple - no web stuff required - there is Notebook. Only TiddlyWiki mentioned above competes for ease of use.

Voodoopad is nice. Can sync with its iOS counterpart so you can take your notes with you, and can also backup to MobileMe.

Seconding Scrivener. Its a great piece of software for writers and now there is a Windows version too.

The good thing about it is that you can organize by chapters, setup characters (for fiction) and finally publish into a standard book format. This is a bit difficult with a wiki.
