How does Cialis work?

Performance-anxiety filter: I'm a early-30s guy who is incredibly sexually inexperienced who has some questions about the pills that tend to help with this problem.

Pre-emptive "I know you are not a doctor, but mine is a bit hard to get in touch with, and google gives me nothing but sites trying to sell the drug).

I was always the guy who was hard until things progressed past dry-humping, & then my member would retreat, and no amount of coxing would bring back the erection. Queue self-esteem issues as a result. A few months back, I finally manned up & went to a urologist to see what could be done. Tests were done: my testorone levels were normal, my equipment was functioning (I had no issues masturbating, but it was nice to see a scientific test to wipe away fears), and my problem was psychological in nature. I was prescribed 20mg of Cialis, and told to split the pills in half (10mg-ish).

The first few times sex came up, we didn't have access to a pill splitter, so I took the entire 20mg dosage. The resulting sex had my penis feeling kinda numb, with a lot of work to make me ejaculate.

I wound up breaking up with that lover only after 2 attempts (hopefully it was unrelated!), so I was not able to utilize the scientific method to answer my question. I did have a Cialis pill that I had split but did not use as the relationship dissolved. A few months pass, I've started dating a new person that I'm definitely feeling a strong sexual attraction to. I took that split Cialis dosage (which is about 3.5 months exposed to air at that time, lying on a shelf) about 45 minutes before the heavy makeout sections starts, & sadly am unable to get it up when the time comes. Additional details: I had been drinking a lot that night (I thought this sort of drugs worked against whiskeydick?), I had a slight cold, I started taking twice-daily doses of 20mg of Adderall starting a month prior, and I didn't have the best week of sleep for the week preceding (about 3-4 hours a night).

Was the numbing a common side effect for taking a higher dosage than needed?
If the Cialis pill is split, does exposure to air reduce the potency of the drug?
Was it possible the other elements of the night are why I had my issue?
Should I stay with the 10mg, or try the 20mg again?
Any other possible variables I should think or worry about?

one thing I can tell you for certain is that drinking will definitely diminish the capacity of these drugs to assist you.

you may want to try again with the half dose sober. also you may want to try some of the other ones ie viagra, levitra. every man I know who uses these has a preference and YMMV with any given one.

good luck!

While I don't know anything about Cialis, I can tell you that I have dated two men that took adderall and were unable to get it up on several occasions.

When I was young, my first boyfriend had performance anxiety and had problems getting it up. That was cured after a few drinks the first two times. Then after he realized that he was able to perform, the anxiety went away.

Alcohol, I think, affects people in different ways. I've yet to be with a guy who had "whiskey dick". The men I've dated would perform greater after alcohol consumption - i mean, unless they were passing out.

Drugs can only do so much if you have anxiety about it (if that was the case the last time)... The mind is powerful.

It is a reasonably common phenomenon among men not to be able to perform satisfactorily with new sexual partners for a certain amount of time (in my case, weeks - in some cases, months).

About your specifics: 3-4 hours of sleep per night = exhaustion. Plus drink = little possibility of sexytime (the mind is willing, but the body is weak...).

Given the above, I am sceptical about the need for Cialys etc., but IANAD, so what the hell do I know?

Put simply: less self-imposed pressure + more time + understanding partner = satisfaction.

I've never taken Adderall, but on just the limited sleep and heavy drinking I'd be hard-pressed (so to speak) to perform, and that's in a long-standing relationship where I'm totally comfortable and can ask for all the foreplay and stimulation that I might need. In a new relationship? Pfft. It would be total limpness for me.

The cialys helps, but don't downplay what serious erection-killers booze and tiredness, not to mention stress, can be.

I have no idea about the drugs, but if someone had 'a lot of alcohol', was running on exhaustion due to lack of sleep, on top of the nervousness with a new partner.. well I think they'd deserve a medal if they could get it up & keep it that way.
