How can I watch all episodes of Lost: Season 6 online legally and free/cheap?

I've just finished watching Lost: Seasons 1-5 on Netflix through their online streaming feature. Now, I want to watch Season 6 and Netflix doesn't have it available to stream live.

I checked abc.com, but they've only got 7 episodes of Season 6. I can get it on iTunes, but I'm not willing to pay $36/season or $1.99/episode quite yet... there's got to be a better option. If it makes a difference, I have a Mac. I don't mind having to stop to watch commercials either. Thanks for any ideas.

Doesn't Hulu.com usually have the recent episodes of TV shows?

Yeah, over there it says they have the last 5 episodes of season 6. So that's some of it, anyway...

Response by poster: abc.com has those too. I had actually checked Hulu, just didn't mention it in my post. I'd like to start with the beginning of Season 6 though, so I guess the real question is where can I get the first 10 or so episodes of Season 6?

Thanks koeselitz

You can get them at casttv.com. Not sure if casttv is available everywhere. It's actually from Megavideo, which only allows around 1.25 hours of watching per 3 hours. So, not so good for a marathon, but good if you don't mind seeing them one or two per day.

Megavideo pretty much doesn't work, considering that the poster stipulated doing this legally.

Also, I just sort of assume from that that she also probably meant to imply that she wanted to do this in a non-sleazy, malware-and-evil-weirdness-free sort of way. Megavideo really doesn't fit that bill.

Oh, sorry - didn't know Megavideo was illegal. There are annoying sleazy popups, but otherwise casttv seemed to be on the up and up. Guess not.

I can get it on iTunes, but I'm not willing to pay $36/season

That's the only way you're going to be able to get if via your legal stipulation. Look at the numbers:

ABC: 7 episodes + ($1.99 * 11 remaining episodes) = $21
Hulu: 5 episodes + ($1.99 * 13 remaining episodes) = $26

Per episode cost:
ABC: $1.17
Hulu: $1.44
iTunes: $1.99

I would go with the ABC route and then pay for the last episode because there's 1,294 commercial breaks that I'd gladly pay $2 to skip. Well no, actually I'd probably just go to EZTV.it and be done with it.

That's cool – it doesn't exactly advertise that fact. Megavideo is actually a branch of Megaupload.

Seconding geoff. I'm not sure that there's an answer to your question exactly as you've posed it. There are all manner of ways to watch the early episodes of Lost s6 for free, but I'm afraid you're likely to find that none of them are legal in the strictest sense. ABC has simply not made the episodes available anywhere else besides iTunes or Hulu at the moment. I feel your pain but I think your investigation is likely going to lead to three options:

1. Ante up and buy them. (Isn't it worth $20 for closure after six years?)

2. Relax your requirements. Downloading broadcast television may not be legal in the strictest sense, but neither is it going to lead to people in riot gear rappelling through your windows. Of course no one here would encourage you to do this or give you specifics on how to proceed, since that would put Metafilter in a weird place legally, but you should know that it's certainly doable (and definitely doable without ad/spyware/malware infestation).

3. Wait. Eventually the full season may be viewable for free online. This will most likely not happen until ABC feels they have fully realized the revenue potential of iTunes / DVD sales / any other channels they find, so settle in and get comfortable.

Find someone who Tivo'd or DVR'd the season on a season pass and kept them. Go over to their place and watch. :)

Odd. I had missed the first 2/3 of the season, ABC.com only had the most recent episodes. I was just about to buy the earlier ones on iTunes--this was about three weeks before the finale--when I checked ABC again and suddenly they had the entire season up. I spent two days watching eps back to back. Now I see that it's reverted to the last 7 eps again. Weird.

Thanks, by the way, for trying to figure out how to do this legally. You could always wait until the dvds come out -- not sure if they'll be on Netflix streaming right away, though. I doubt it. Until the dvds show up, itunes + abc is your best bet.
