You are not my doctor, which is partly why I need one.

Looking for a new doctor in central or west end Toronto.

My former doctor, whom I thought was wonderful, is embroiled in an issue with the College of Physicians and Surgeons over a book he wrote. Hope he gets that worked out so he can practice again, but meanwhile I need a doctor. I live in Toronto's Junction area, in the west end. Can any Toronto MeFites recommend a doctor in central/west end Toronto?

Do you know the this site: http://www.cpso.on.ca/docsearch/? I used it to get a GP in Toronto about a year ago. He's around Bay/Bloor, so you can probably find someone closer to the Junction, but if you can't I could try to find his info (I forget his name at the moment).

Check out Health Care Connect from the Government of Ontario. Apparently you do have to tell them a bit about your condition, and you will lose priority as you already have a doctor, but it's another option.

Try:

Albany Medical Clinic at 807 Broadview Ave.
from that site, "Patients are our customers - our reason for being here. New patients are always welcomed."

Then there is this article from City TV on how to find a doctor in Toronto.

My wife was looking for a doctor as well recently, a friend told her, "Family Health Clinic at Toronto Western Hospital. We've sent almost a dozen people there and not a single one of them isn't thrilled."

There's a location-based search at the Ministry's Find Health Care Options that includes family health teams, community health centres as well as independent docs.

I can recommend the Family Health Team at St. Joe's and in general I would say a team is better for two reasons: it's easy to get an appointment in urgent situations even if it's not with your doc, but there is still continuity of care. And a team includes nurses, nurse practitioners, a nutritionist, residents etc. which means seeing the right kind of person for your needs in a coordinated way.

Having said that, I have a good friend who can't say enough good things about Dr. Lear at Yonge and Eglinton.
