Park in Boston or take the train?

Heading down to Boston Monday night to see Pearl Jam at the Garden. Don't want to take the train (from Portland, ME) since the last one will likely leave before the show ends. What is my best parking option for like a 7 hour stretch (6p-1a)?

Alternately, if anyone has seen Pearl Jam on the current tour, how long have shows been running? The time on my tickets is 7:30 with no indication if that's a start time or door time. The last train leaves the Garden at 11:20p. 5 hours seems like it should be enough time for the entire show, but the last time I took the train I had to leave mid-encore.

Advice?

Park somewhere outside the city and take the commuter rail or subway or bus in. Wonderland at the end of the Blue Line has a lot of parking, or the commuter rail station in Lynn, which has late night bus service as well.

Best answer: I live right here.. parking is impossible BUT these spots right here are free and pure gold. I would double park, put on your flashers and wait for someone to leave. Might take 15-20 minutes but just build that time in. Then you can walk the 3 minutes to the garden. If it's really a pain there are tons of garages but that'll run you about 30 bucks.

Best answer: Miko asked a very similar question a while back and the answers may be helpful to you.

There's an mbta lot just over the river at the Lechemere station. $4. Just across the highway. Pretty safe area, short train ride or 20min walk to the Gahden.

Response by poster: Ah! Sorry my search failed, that's a very helpful thread. Thank you!

I may try pwally's suggestion and just suck up the cost for a parking garage if I can't get a spot. Even if it ends up $30, that's cheaper than the $75 for the three of us to take the train down.

Wait, wait, I have a good answer for you.

There are two often unused garages right off of Cambridge St that are both $10 after 5PM. I am a Bruins season ticketholder and this garage has NEVER been full, even last night with a game 7 AND the circus right around the corner.

They are on Somerset St. There is a parking sign right on Cambridge that will direct you. Let me know if you want directions, but it's easy to do via google. I always use the one on the right side of the street, but I think I used the one on the left once.

I know this is a late answer, but you really should check with Amtrak.

I know my aunt and uncle have taken the train to North Station for several concerts that began at 8 or later and they've been able to take a train back. It seems if there's an event at the Garden --- whether Bruins, Celtics, or a concert --- that Amtrak runs an extra late train. They do this for Sox games, too.

It may not be for every event, but I know it happens.

Response by poster: For the curious, a friend ended up driving down and we just parked in one of the garages outside the Garden. $25 between 3 people is really nothing.

And the show was great. :)
