Fried Green Mountain Oysters

Have you heard of any bizarre aphrodisiac food ingredients?

The stranger and more visceral the better... instead of obvious things like chocolate, think 'sea cucumber' or 'bird nest soup.'

We're doing a photo shoot and need some really icky stuff. Bonus points if it can be purchased and shipped, or found in NYC!

Thank you!

Most of the bizarre stuff I've heard about is, you know, flat out illegal - powdered rhino horn and whatnot. Raw oysters are sort of a trope in this vein, no?

...and then I read your title. I was sure I'd seen lists of this sort of thing - most everything here is probably readily available, if it's exotic enough for you.

Response by poster: Thanks for that link, though we're looking for things that are not on that list. 'Mountain Oysters' is another word for bull testicles - which is more along the lines of what I'm looking for.

Illegal items are also ok.

Best answer: Uni's sort of bizarre, I s'pose.

Best answer: If you can get your hands on a copy of Isabel Allende's "Aphrodisia," it has a HUGE list of aphrodisiac ingredients. It's an entire book ABOUT aphrodisiacs.

Granted, not all of them are "icky", but it's a beautifully sensuous book, so I try to promote it. It may also have a few out-there ideas for you.

Alrighty, then: tiger penis, usually served in a soup.

For me, the only thing that can do it is my first cup of black tea with milk.

Best answer: In Korea I ate a stew (kamjetang) with shaved antlers (deer?) in it. Our hosts said it was "good for stamina." Kamjetang doesn't normally have antlers in it though.

Best answer: Mama Juana. Not terribly exotic when you get right down to the ingredients, but it's apparently popular in the Caribbean. So are various syrups, fermented and not, from the mangrove plant.

Best answer: I've found at least one source that says Molokhia is supposed to be an aphrodisiac, though I don't know how much help this will be to you as it doesn't look too odd, nor sound that bizarre as it is after all only a green leafy vegetable added to soup...the strange thing about it is the texture. Most references describe it, politely, as "mucilaginous" and yet this still doesn't put across the full horror.
