Looking for lyrics to the traditional piano song 'Remembrance'

It's my grandmother's funeral tomorrow, and she always used to recite a verse while listening to the traditional piano song 'Remembrance' (it's the song on this CD: An Hour of Piano Masterpieces). The verse was something like this:

???
of lands afar
these memories dear
how sweet they are

Googling has yielded nothing. So, what are the missing words? Are they associated with this song, or are they from a poem, or something else? Any help greatly appreciated.

Best answer: When we recall those memories dear
that cling to us from year to year
Of bygone days of lands afar
Those memories sweet how dear they are

I'm not surprised you couldn't find it. From this it appears to be a poem, although it could have been associated with the song in some pop culture context. My boyfriend thinks it was likely set to the music later but we don't really know. Hope this helps.

Best answer: Wow, this one was tough.

First, the song was written by Carl Reber. Remembrance – by Carl Reber (Piano Solo) Op 73.

Supposedly the 2nd part of the title is "Romance Sans Paroles", which seems contradictory to finding lyrics, as that means "Romance without words." He may have read Verlaine's work, and taken it from there.

"...most of Carl Reber's music seems to have been published in London c1908-16. The largest collection of his pieces I can find is at the National Library of Australia, which has 17 different publications."

Lyrics are -

"When we re-call fond memories dear.
Which cling to us from year to year.
Of bygone days in lands a-far.
Those memories sweet how dear they are.
Remembrance."

And here's a scan of the sheet music!

Also, I'm sorry about your grandmother. This verse will be lovely for her funeral tomorrow.

Response by poster: Wow, awesome, thank you, both. You've made my mother (who's doing the eulogy) so happy.
