Quick! need a restaurant recommendation for London City / Shoreditch area, for tonight. Casual but not too casual. Was thinking St Johns Bread and Wine but I left it too late to get a table.

Everywhere decent will probably be booked out I guess. Its for two, kind of a 'date'. I'm thinking not a curry obviously.

S&M / Canteen seem a bit clinical. I coudl do Viet on Kingsland Road but its a little obvious.

Best answer: Broadway Market - Buen Ayre?

If your definition of City could extend to Farringdon eateries:

Also, if you can't get to St Johns on Commercial St, have you tried the original?

Vinoteca - awesome place. Doesn't take bookings. Get there at 6-ish, or else no table.
Smiths of Smithfield - noisy bar, steak by rote restaurant upstairs
Vivat Bacchus - lovely wine. Pricey in the restaurant, but cheaper wine bar
Comptoir Gascon -younger brother of well regarded French restaurant
The Modern Pantry Ambitious, small portions, quite cosy

Gastropubs:
The Eagle - the original gastropub, but a bit overrated IMHO
The Coach and Horses - interesting, cut above gastropub menu, not so great dining room
The Well - nice enough gastropub
The Peasant a cut above the others, with an upstairs eating room

Best answer: Opentable has quite a few City / Shoreditch restaurants. you can search for tables this evening. What about the Hoxton Apprentice?

Response by poster: Wasn't really intending to head over to Farringdon / Clerkenwell - but may have to I guess. Thanks for tips.

Is there anything good London Bridge / Borough way?

I've been to Brindisa tapas which was ok, but no reservations and a fight for a table.

Try Roast at Borough.

Response by poster: Roast looks a bit fancier than i'd intended I think.

In which case, I'd highly recommend Vinoteca. It's worth the journey.
