How many pugs and pug owners are there both in the U.S. and worldwide?

I'm trying to get a rough estimation on both the number of pugs and pug owners in the U.S. and worldwide.

Any ideas on sources for that sort of info?

AKC should have statistics on the number of registered pugs. And I imagine they have an estimate of the percentage of purebred dogs that get registered. From there you could extrapolate the number of pugs in the US.
