I'm partial to the East River Park. The area near the amphitheater has the nicest view (at least in my opinion), but the promenade down there is closed for construction, so the northern end of the park (which now features a brand new refurbished waterfront promenade) might be more romantic.
Top of the Rock would be great, but they don't open until 8am.... Maybe the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge? posted by blaneyphoto at 6:43 AM on September 26
The Belvedere in Central Park would be my guess. You're in the middle of the city, in the middle of the park. posted by musofire at 7:08 AM on September 26
Take the PATH train under the Hudson River to the Exchange Place boardwalk and you can see the sun come up over Manhattan which is pretty. posted by nicwolff at 12:25 PM on September 26
I agree with nicwolff...watching the sunrise over Manhattan would be beautiful. Additional locations...Newport/Pavonia or Hoboken stop along the PATH line, just walk to the water. Another good spot in Manhattan is in Tudor City (east of 2nd Ave, between 41st-43rd) and looking out over Long Island City. Enjoy! posted by Cuddo at 1:07 PM on September 26
I know you said sunrise, but you should consider viewing a sunset from The Cloisters.
For sunrises, I like Coney Island. posted by cmgonzalez at 5:19 PM on September 26
The 360 degree view from the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge, at the very crack of dawn is sublime. posted by sgobbare at 11:47 AM on October 1
If you can gain access to a tall roof on the Lower East Side or in Alphabet City in the East Village, the sunrise looks gorgeous. posted by msk1985 at 10:48 PM on October 6
