Film of Ubu Roi

I'm looking for a specific edition of a film of Ubu Roi.

My father would like a copy of Ubu Roi that he remembers. Specifically:

1. He saw it in the early 1970's or late 1960's borrowed from French Cultural Services.

2. He said it looked like something from the 1930s, like in sepia tones.

3. It was real people, not animated. But, as an example a real person might ride a paper horse.

4. I showed him versions from youtube and examples from IMDB, and he does not think it was any of those.

5. Film was in French.

6. He does not remember who any of the specific actors or actresses were.

Does anyone have any ideas about which film this might be, or any leads I could pursue? Ideally, where I could find a copy to buy.

Thanks very much.

Best answer: Hhmm. Maybe the made-for-tv version directed by Jean-Christophe Averty? I know it was black and white, French, and made in 1965. You can see some small images from the film here, up top.

Response by poster: Thanks iconomy, my father isn't sure if it's the same one or not, but he said it sounds good and would like to see it.

Anyone know where I could buy it? The only film I've found for sale is on Amazon.fr only for Zone 2. (need zone 1)

Thanks.
