Cut my hair, DIY edition

Looking for resources, sites, instructional videos, advice, or tips for cutting my own hair
I want to learn how to cut my own hair, or, alternately, teach my husband how to cut it for me. I have a shoulder-length layered haircut and would like to keep it pretty much the same, but I need to trim an inch or so off. Do you do this successfully? Do you know of any good resources to help me learn? The stuff I've found so far on YouTube and such is not very good . . . (I'm aware of this question, but it's many years old and asks about a different kind of cut, so I thought I'd throw it out there again in these dark recessionary days).

Response by poster: Yes, I'm aware of the Aveda Institute. And Bumble and Bumble Model Project (which is superior, IMHO, in case anyone is looking for that kind of info). But I'm looking for DYI haircutting tips. (And my husband is willing, nay, eager, to take on the task!)

Best answer: For 49 cents, you can buy a used copy of the textbooks they use in cosmetology classes: Milady's Standard Textbook of Cosmetology. It covers a lot more than what you need, but surely it has instructions for basic hair cutting.

Keeping up with the layers, or asking your husband to shoulder the ppressure seems riskier than a simple cut.
