Help us find a sporting event in Dublin in May

How can a Yank find a Hurling or Gaelic Football fixture in Dublin during May...and obtain tickets?

Four of us are heading to Dublin between the 12th and 17th of May. I'd really like to catch a good Hurling match, while a couple of the others are interested in Gaelic Football. The GAA and Hill 16 sites are a bit difficult to navigate, and there's little elsewhere on the web.

Are we out of luck until closer to May?

Any other sporting events we need to check out?

Looks like there's a first round Leinster football game on the 17th May. It's mostly in Irish, Ceatharlaich = Carlow, An Lu = Louth, and Bealtaine = May. It's in Parnell Park though, which is also in Dublin, not Croke Park. Carlow and Louth are small counties in Leinster.

The Christy Ring Cup referred to there is a hurling tournament.

I tried a couple of the clubs for fixtures (my local club is Kilmacud Crokes), but none of them seem to extend that far.

The GAA master fixture list might help you out. (It'll also help if you know the Irish names for the counties...)

Response by poster: I had my eye on that Christy Ring Cup fixture. Is that going to be in Dublin?

Dublin isn't in the christy ring cup but maybe some games might be on in Dublin. I'm pretty sure Wicklow are in it though, if you're touristing around down there. No racing at leopardstown during your dates either :(

Ticketmaster has all the fixture for croke park.... (one option)

You can usually show up and buy tickets if you know when a game is on

Also, if you know where you'll be you could always check out the local GAA scene. Most weeks there'll be some sort of a match on. Whether or not it is a "good" game, well, that one I can't answer :)

Or if you are in Mayo you could show up to the Nua Eabhrac v Maigh Eo (that's new York V Mayo) match on the 10th May. It is football, not hurling but it is sort of important as it is the first round of the Championship. Mayo will win.

There are a few "proposed events" happening in Croke Park in May, but there are no details as to what they are. Still Croke Park does have stadium tours & a museum is you are interested in more general GAA stuff.
