How to get from Clapham to A3

Anyone know any short cuts/back routes to get from Clapham Common to the A3? Commuting from Clapham to Guildford in the mornings, and the traffic getting out of Clapham is horrendous!

From Clapham South tube station go down Nightingale Lane B229 (if you're feeling like a second breakfast stop at the cafe/patisserie on the left just before the second zebra crossing. They bake the most delicous croissants). Strait on over the railway bridge by Wandsworth Common station and up Bellevue Rd.* Get in the right hand lane and take the right at the junction with Trinity Rd. A214. At the first set of traffic lights take the left onto Earlsfield Rd. B324. Third right Bassingham Rd. Left at the T onto Swaffield Rd., straight across at the lights onto Kimber Rd. and straight on to the traffic lights and T junction at the end. Turn right onto Merton Rd. A218, go straight on (second exit) at the roundabout but fork left almost immediately onto West Hill Rd. Follow West Hill Rd. as it winds about for about half a mile till you come to the traffic lights at West Hill A3. Turn left and you'll know the way from there.
On returning in the evening you may want to turn off the A3 at Tibbet's Corner roundabout and take Tibbet's Corner/Putney Hill A219 down the hill till just past the long brick wall of Putney School for Girls, take a left onto Carlton Drive and follow it round till the T junction with Upper Richmond Rd. A205. Take a right there and you will soon be on the Wandsworth one way system neatly side stepping the massive queue on West Hill and in a suitably positive mood to find a way round Clapham Junction which, as any fule kno, is in an even deeper state of chaos than usual while they dig up the road by the library.
Happy Trails.

*If Bellevue Rd. is jammed take the right fork at the lights after the aforementioned railway bridge up St.Jame's Dr., first right onto Nottingham Rd. and right at the T onto Trinity Rd.

Can't speak for doing it at commuting time, but going from Clapham South to Guildford we follow Dr Pill's route onto Merton Road, but turn off second left onto Granville Road, then right onto Sutherland Grove and up to the A3. (I think. Anyway, we cut further west before heading up to the A3.)

The two major choke-points are around Clapham Junction, where Battersea Rise crosses Northcote Road; and then Wandsworth High Street which is horrible at any time of day. Any route that avoids those two will be good.
