80sFilter: Trying to find a late 80s song I think was titled "I V(W)ant To Be a Vampire" that was a parody of the Boys Don't Cry "I Wanna Be a Cowboy"
I think it was on the Dr. Demento show rotation...but not positive. Tried searching his archives with no success.

Response by poster: No, this was done to the tune of the Boys Don't Cry song. I don't remember any specific lyrics other than:
I Want to be a vampire\
And you can be my victim
It was a kind of satirical/parody song the likes that woulod be on the Dr. Demento show.

Came in to say I also remember the song but only the lyrics(which I'm pretty sure was the chorus)
I Want to be a vampire\
And you can be my victim
thinking that would help in some way. Although I don't recall it being to the tune of Boys Don't Cry. I am hoping someone can answer. I vould love to hear it again. And if not, damn you all.

Well it wasn't on the archives for Dr. Demento. Could it have been I Wanna Be A __somethingelse____?
There's lots of other I wanna be A's on there, including the original BDC tune.

Response by poster: Not positive I heard it on Demento's show back in the day (and yeah, search both that and googled the hell outta any permutation). Could've been a Florida radio station exclusive I heard it on.
It was definitely "I Want/Vant to be a Vampire" though, and definitely to the same tune(ish) as the BDC song.

The Florida radio station thing might be true. I know I heard this on the radio when I was a child, grew up in Florida, and never heard the Dr.Demento program
I doubt this will much help but it may have been a station out of Jacksonville. I grew up in St.Augustine so most of the stations we listened to were based there.
and yes, I realized after posting that you meant Boys Don't Cry the band that did I Wanna be a Cowboy..not The Cure song. Not so smart sometimes am I

Response by poster: Ahhhh...much good explanation there. I lived in Fernandina Beach, just north of Jacksonville around the time I heard it. (I embarrasslingly 'fess that I listened to WAPE at that time.)

Ahh yes, the WAPE. I remember the bumper stickers with the big ape. I've been googling like a mo'fo' and have failed. Please, I beg of you hive mind...tell the OP the name of this song!!!
For his or her sake of course, I personally couldn't care less.

Also lived in Jacksonville, FL in the late eighties, also remember this song. I wouldn't have thought it would be hard to find, but apparently, it is.
