Goya-ist?

I'd thought it was a Goya, but the (self?) portrait I'm looking for isn't turning up amongst his collected works. The striking feature of the Renaissance-y painting is the joyous, somewhat impish expression of the subject.

Things that may or may not also be in the portrait: a dark background, one of those great floppy hats and an easel on the left.

Best answer: rembrandt? he's known for his self-portraits.

Best answer: I'm going to assume it's not this Goya that seems to fit your description pretty well. Here's a Rembrandt that seems about right.

Best answer: I was thinking Rembrandt as well. Might it be something like this?

Response by poster: I'm pretty sure now y'all nailed it with Rembrandt: costume-wise I'd rememebered something like this, but the composition was more like his others. I might have confused one of his other self-portraits with this sketch. Thanks!
