We're looking for recommendations for a hotel, resort or villa on the beach at Ka'anapali or near Lahaina that will not just tolerate a service dog but will welcome one. [more inside]

My husband and I will be traveling with two friends of ours to Big Island of Hawai'i the first week of October. We went around the same time with the same couple in 2012 and spent most of our time on the Kona side. Now we're planning to spend most of our time on the Hilo side, and I'm looking for all the advice/tips/recommendations you have to offer! Specific questions inside. [more inside]

I'm headed to Maui, Maalaea Bay to be precise, next week on Wednesday, and am a little freaked out about this Hurricane situation. I'm looking for recommendations on solid news sources beyond just the weather updates for Maui. Will the grocery stores be re-stocked by Wednesday? Having never been in the vicinity of a hurricane before, are there any post-storm things I should be expecting or is it likely to just be a regular beach vacation?

My family and I are planning a trip to Hawaii, but we don't know where to even start. Family of four; two adults, two kids who will be 4 and 1.5. We're total Hawaii newbies. We don't even know which island to visit. [more inside]

Flying out to Oahu, staying in Kailua tomorrow and would love absolute can't miss places in Kailua town or anywhere else on the island. Looking for great food, beautiful (not greater than "intermediate" difficulty) hikes, where to go to rent jet skis, and any other literally-we-have-to-see-this off-the-beaten-path sort of suggestions. My girlfriend and I are going to Kauai for vacation in May, we're spending the first two days South of Lihue on our own, and then meeting up with a big bunch of family in Princeville for a whole week. As two late twenties, gay, slightly geeky, not super hardcore outdoorsy types, what should we absolutely not miss during our trip? [more inside]

I have a zillion AmEx rewards points on a card I use for work, and my wife and I would like to use them to stay in a resort/hotel in Hawaii this summer (Kona/Waikoloa area), also booking a (possibly adjoining, but that's not a big deal) room for my mother to join us. I've never done that before (the points part - I totally know how to go on vacation), and I'm looking for advice on getting it right. [more inside]

Looking for tips on how to do Hawaii affordably. My GF and I would like to go for about 5-7 days and if we can keep air, lodging and car rental to $1000 each we'd be happy. We realize that may not be possible. Since many aspects of a trip to Hawaii seem to be more expensive than other sunny getaways we're researching any ways to keep costs lower. [more inside]

I'll be traveling to Maui next week and just realized that there will be some closures due to the government shutdown. It looks like Haleakala will be closed - does that just cover visitor centers and bathrooms and such, or will the entire park be physically inaccessible? Any portions of the Road to Hana affected? What else should I be aware of, either on Maui or about air travel in general during this time? Thanks!

We are two busy guys who need to blow off a bit of steam, but mostly relax in the sun, and want to go to Hawaii (or somewhere) but have never been and need advice! So, in November, where is it best for two (straight-ish) dudes to go in Hawaii who like to dance, drink, swim, meet new people and also really want to take photographs of beautiful things? Thanks team!

I grew up in Honolulu/Hawaii, so know where to shop, eat, and head out to find more secluded beaches, but am totally clueless on where to STAY while visiting! I've been going back to visit family each year for at least ten years now, and have progressively gone from sticking it out in my childhood bedroom at parent's house, to hippie hostels, mega multi-generation family resorts, and am now at a point in my life where I just want to visit "home" and relax, without feeling like a tourist shoved in an elevator with 40 other people on the way to breakfast every morning. Price is no object, $500-$1000/night is game. Any recommendations for smaller, intimate "boutique" hotels or villas in Hawaii? [more inside]

In February my family (couple and 9 year old) are going to the Big Island of Hawaii for 9 days. We're arriving in Kona at 9:30pm on a Friday, and leave the following Sunday at 10:30pm (a red-eye). We're haven't made any reservations for where to stay yet, and I'm wondering where and what are best choices. [more inside]

Do you have any suggestions for budget lodging on the big island in Hawaii (we'll be coming into KOA airport)? We've never been and are at a loss for how to find a good place to stay. What I really want is suggestions for places that you have personally stayed in and can highly recommend, preferably less than $100, and definitely less than $150 (upper end only if it is really truly breathtaking). Individually owned condos and whatnot are perfect suggestions if it means getting something stunning at an affordable price. [more inside]

We are thinking about renting a vacation house on Molokai for a week or two. The house is fairly remote, looks great. My brother had read on one of the travel sites that residents of Molokai are frequently (or at least relatively) unfriendly to mainlanders. By way of reference, we are respectful travellers, have been to various Hawaiin islands many times, and really never had any kind of issue like that at all. Anyone have travel or residential experience on Molokai? I would value your thoughts...

I'm heading to Hawaii and on our first day our flight lands in Honolulu at 8am but our flight to Kauai isn't until 5pm. Are there any hotel rooms that offer day rooms you can book in advance? So far we've tried the Pacific Marina Inn, but they said they cannot advise availability until the day. We really just want somewhere we can shower and store our bags, so any other suggestions are welcome.
