No, it's not a time-share scam. Yes, it's legitimate. I've been to Hawaii once as pre-teen and my partner has never been. Assume for the sake of this question that you have 4-5 days in Hawaii and want to see/do all the best things. What would you recommend?

I'm headed to Maui, Maalaea Bay to be precise, next week on Wednesday, and am a little freaked out about this Hurricane situation. I'm looking for recommendations on solid news sources beyond just the weather updates for Maui. Will the grocery stores be re-stocked by Wednesday? Having never been in the vicinity of a hurricane before, are there any post-storm things I should be expecting or is it likely to just be a regular beach vacation?

I'll be traveling to Maui next week and just realized that there will be some closures due to the government shutdown. It looks like Haleakala will be closed - does that just cover visitor centers and bathrooms and such, or will the entire park be physically inaccessible? Any portions of the Road to Hana affected? What else should I be aware of, either on Maui or about air travel in general during this time? Thanks!

So, in November, where is it best for two (straight-ish) dudes to go in Hawaii who like to dance, drink, swim, meet new people and also really want to take photographs of beautiful things? I grew up in Honolulu/Hawaii, so know where to shop, eat, and head out to find more secluded beaches, but am totally clueless on where to STAY while visiting! I've been going back to visit family each year for at least ten years now, and have progressively gone from sticking it out in my childhood bedroom at parent's house, to hippie hostels, mega multi-generation family resorts, and am now at a point in my life where I just want to visit "home" and relax, without feeling like a tourist shoved in an elevator with 40 other people on the way to breakfast every morning. Price is no object, $500-$1000/night is game. Any recommendations for smaller, intimate "boutique" hotels or villas in Hawaii? [more inside]
