Pro-social comics/comic books for preschoolers

My son and daughter-in-law asked me to query the MeFi Hive Mind. Here's their question regarding their son, my grandson, who is 3½, very bright, with relatively sophisticated language skills. He loves books and being read to (I read to him over Facetime). Their question: [more inside]

What was that comic series? Brightly coloured dragonball Z homage.

A couple of years ago I read two volumes of a comic that was a very clear expy of Dragonball Z. An alien world where invincible martial artists glow and shoot beams. Very vivid use of colour, almost James Stokoe-like, but with oranges, greens and purples everywhere. [more inside]

Anguished voice dubbing? (mainly for Spanish or German speakers)

I have noticed that voice actors in Spain and in Germany use what I describe as an "anguished" manner of speaking. Why is this, how did it originate? Does it exist in any other languages? [more inside]

Good sources for news about Chile and Argentina?

In preparation for a trip to Argentina and Chile, I'd like to start following the news. What's a good, English-language source for headlines? I'm not going to become an expert but I want to have nodding familiarity with the big names and issues.

What's better for slow motion video, upscaling, or time stretching?

OK, so I got a DJI Osmo Pocket 3, specifically for a project where I want nice-looking super-slow-motion footage. My ideal would be 4K/240fps. Unfortunately, the Pocket 3 can only do either 4K/120fps or 1080p/240fps. I’m mulling the idea of either upscaling the resolution or stretching out the frames per second. All things being equal, which of these solutions would look better?

Can someone download a public domain book for me from hathitrust.org?

So I would like to download Hollywood Girl by J.P. McEvoy from Hathitrust.org. However, due to their rules, as a Google Scanned book, "If you are not affiliated with a member institution, whole book download is not available." And while the member institution list has a large number of American universities, my alma mater is not among them. Non-members can only download a page at a time. The book is the second of the Dixie Dugan novels, the first of which Show Girl, is downloadable from Google Books directly, even though similarly restricted at Hathitrust. [more inside]

Will no one rid me of these flaky subtitles?

I keep the closed captioning, i.e. subtitles, turned on while watching TV. Some of them are laughably bad and I'm hoping I can find some compassion for the poor working stiffs who have to generate them. [more inside]

Is there a word for this?

For how a vision of the future always seems an obvious product of the era that created it? Like how 2001: A Space Odyssey, Logan’s Run, and Blade Runner are unmistakably products of the 60s, 70s, and 80s respectively?
