Classic MetaFilter Posts

There are some amazing old posts in the MetaFilter archives, but the sheer volume of material makes it a needle/haystack exercise to find them. Jimbob made an excellent comment in this thread where he suggested that the community could put together a collection of favourite old MetaFilter discussions. So how about it, what classic MetaFilter post do you think qualifies as a must-read thread?
This is definitely a double post as we have covered this ground many times, probably on the wiki as well, but it is true that the good older posts are often overlooked, especially by newbies.
I'd submit the 9/11 thread as well as 9622. How about the Kaycee Nicole thread too...

From the AskMe "post a new question" page (emphasis taken directly from the original):
Make sure it's not MetaFilter, MetaTalk, or Ask MetaFilter related, as those posts would best be posted in MetaTalk than here.
Shouldn't this really be in MeTa?

I think this thread may belong here, but perhaps that question/comment belongs in MeTa. If the "Classic MeFi" site is built outside MeFi completely, does a citation of it belong in MeTa or in the blue? Most confusing.
I nominate this horrifying thread here in Ask (may be NSFW).

For sure in the past 8 months or so this was asked in MeTa. Got a lot of rather good responses. I'm too lazy to search though. It's definitely there, though.

Response by poster: If TV taught me one thing, and one thing only, it's that welding plates of steel on to a dilapidated vehicle will get the A-Team out of trouble.
That said; yay. Wiki.
