My lovely gentleman friend and I are going to be in San Juan for New Year's Eve. Help us figure out where to shack up for the evening!

Where's the party at on New Year's Eve in San Juan?
I stayed in Condado the last time I was there, but I want to make sure that our room is wherever the party is since we don't want to be taxi-ing around in traffic. So if the party is in Old San Juan, we want to stay there. Conversely, if it's in Condado, over there. If there's no big party, then Old San Juan is best.
So, first question: Where's the party at?
Second question: Where are the budget hotels or hostels at?
My guess is that we'll want something in OSJ, so if anyone can recommend something centrally located and relatively affordable then that would be super appreciated.
Thanks, hive!

In Old San Juan I recommend you stay at The Gallery Inn or at Hotel Milano. Hotel Milano is closer to the clubs and chic restaurants of the area. But I think you might get a quieter night at the Gallery Inn. It's beautiful small and the owner is amazing.
There's also El Convento, but it's expensive during the holidays.
Have fun! Eat at La Bombonera (Fortaleza ST.) one morning and have a mallorca.

Best answer: We stayed at Casa Candela and it was awesome. Totally great budget place, and there was even a fun little party on the rooftop for New Years. Gorgeous view up there. And GREAT location for exploring Old San Juan.

Old San Juan is always a good bet, as there are lots of bars and restaurants.
The big hotels on the Condado and Isla Verde strip, especially those with clubs attached to them. for example, El San Juan Hotel & Casino has a club called Brava, and they have something going all the time.
I don't know of any hostels in the area, but you should look into the El Canario hotels (basic rooms, about as inexpensive as you will find in the area). There are 3 of them and mostly located in the Condado area. Also, Casa del Caribe, in Condado. In Old San Juan, Hotel Milano is right in the middle of everything. I'd advise againt the Plaza de Armas hotel in OSJ - I have not stayed there but it has a pretty bad reputation.
