Does anyone have any advice on which of the Veterans Service Oranizations are best for assisting somebody in filing a VA disability claim?

I don't know abou vet service org's, but I applied for a job at the VA processing claims and they literally had two piles of applications, a normal pile and a pile for people who had written to their senator and congressman and asked for help getting their applicatio processed faster. The later stack was processed faster.

I used Disabled American Veterans (DAV) very successfully. I learned about DAV by attending TAP (transition assistance program) during my outprocessing. The military installation you are stationed at/ nearest to should have a transition assistance office (called different things in the different service branches; try family support if you can't figure out which office you should be talking to) that should be able to direct you to organizations they are personally familiar with that help veterans file claims. Also, if you feel comfortable and you are in a small enough community (otherwise, the personnel is too harried to help) you can go to the local VA office and they will direct you to organizations they believe are the best at helping veterans file disability claims. My best advice --- DO NOT WAIT! There are strict time standards for filing claims and it's easy to reject a claimant if he or she busts the deadlines. Good luck!
