i need an apartment in shanghai, but i want somethign nice! is there any cool warehouse type accomodation, because all the apartments i have looked at are cr@ppy.
after christmas i expect to be working in shanghai wiht my global company. i have checked out some apartments that friends are in. they are stale, poor layout, unattractive, unfashionable, high rise, depressing .... in my last two places, i have had really nice open plan spacious warehouse style accomodation. does anything nice exist in shanghai? i want apartment, and the budget is probably less than or around US2000 per month. i just want something open plan and pleasant to live in..

I did some poking around. Here are some possibilities:
Craigslist post
Shanghai Expat listing
Realtor's listing
Another Craigslist post
ARK Shanghai might be promising
Another one
(the thesaurus abuse in some of those listing sites is truly entertaining!)
I don't think any of these are truly open plan, though. I don't know how competitive the market is right now, but it sounds like you have a pretty good idea of the kind of place you want to live in. In that case, I'd either fly over earlier and rent something in advance, or stay in a hotel when you first get there so that you can check things out in person.
Good luck!
