Anyone know of a russian-language equivalent of Hotmail/ yahoo / free web mail for a technophobic russian friend? Bonus points for advice on how to type cyrillic using English keyboards, as she'll be using public library computers.

Here's a quick list of email providers.

Yandex has a keyboard layout mapper; Alex Moskalyuk rolled his own using a downloadable Microsoft utility.

Response by poster: thanks SmartDalek. You've made a barely-Anglophone neighbour very happy that she can communicate with her sister in the Ukraine.

I have used mail.ru for years. I don't a lick of cyrillic and I still navigate it just fine. It should be a breeze for someone in Russia.

I use mail.ru too. (It's my shopping (ergo spam) account, and I have a filter that kills any message with cyrillic letters.)
