I have the newest gen iPod and it won't let me play some of the songs.
for example, whenever I try to play Chris Rock the iPod just resets itself.
anyone know how I can fix the problem.

Oh and the Chris Rock tracks I try to play I downloaded from my brother.
they will play on my computer but the actule iPod won't have any of it.

What kind of files are they? Do the file names end in mp3 or wma or what?

Maybe an unsupported audio format? Is it a format that your iPod recognizes? If not, try right-clicking the song in iTunes and select > Convert Selection To AAC or Convert Selection To MP3.

Okay, phew, lots of questions:

• What operating system are you using with your iPod?
• What version of iTunes are you using?
• What format is the file in?
• Are there any "special" characters in the filename or the tags ("metadata")?

Control-click or right-click (depending on your mouse button situation) on the music file in the Finder.

Select "Get Info" from the pop-up menu.

The filetype will be in the "Kind" field.

I had the same problem.
Run Disk Utility and repair the ipod.

"the Chris Rock tracks I try to play I downloaded from my brother"

What does this mean? Any idea where they came from?

(so yeah, what's the file type?)

This seems to be a known issue, see this brief note in Apple support. FWIW, though Apple reports this as a problem with 5G iPods, my husband has been having similar issues with some podcasts on his 4G version.

I'm on my third ipod in 2 years of Apple Care. This is a symptom I saw just before the each ipod's hard drive failed.

I've noticed that my ipod can't handle small glitches and errors in the file which my computer is quite able to play through. If the file is imperfect, that might account for it. On mine, the normal result is that the ipod skips to the next track. If I listen to the same file on my computer, at that point where the ipod skipped there is sometimes an audible pop or other glitch.

Regardless of what the problem actually is, a guaranteed solution (if you have the CD) is to re-encoding the track.

Response by poster: Thanks I used Iconomy's advice and converted it to ACC and that did it.

Thanks again to all.
