Where can I find a taller platform bed?

Where can I find a relatively tall and simple platform or lofted bed, or at least a better way to describe what I'm looking for?

I had an awesome bedframe in college, and I'd really like something similar in my new apartment. It was black metal, no headboard or anything, it was bunkable, and the height was adjustable. My last year, I had the height maxed out and risers underneath it, and it was just short of being too high to climb into without standing on something.

All I've been able to find online are wooden beds (which just don't seem as sturdy to me) that are lofted high enough for a desk underneath (which is way too high) or metal frames that are only a few inches off the ground. If I thought my college would sell me one of theirs (and I could somehow transport it 1000 miles and get it up three flights of stairs...), I would be calling them every day, but they're pretty useless, so instead I'm scouring the internet.

I'd prefer not to mod something too much- risers I can handle, but anything involving tools is not going to be workable- but ideas on how to heighten a bed enough (and keep it sturdy) to suit my needs would also be appreciated.

So basically, what I am looking for is a bed like I described, an easy way to mod a bed to be like I described, or a better description for what I'm looking for so searching Craigslist is less painful.

Thanks!

Get a super thick box spring plus a thick mattress plus some kind of pillow top. At that point, it barely matters what kind of bed you have. Also, try captain's beds with these mattresses, as they have drawers under them, and therefore are often taller than the average bed.

Response by poster: It's not necessarily the height, it's the storage. I have a lot of books and a small bedroom, so I'd like to set up shorter bookshelves underneath my bed so I have more space. I'll look into the captain's beds though!

This site has some options. There are three metal loft beds there, some with built in desks underneath.

I asked a similar question here. I was basically looking to recreate something like this.

I reccomend finding a picture.

Also, it would be very possible to mod this to make the legs longer, if you are good with hardware, or have a friend who is.

I'd try "loft bed frame" as your search as it turns up lots of craigslist options. Also have a look at Ikea, they have several. Also try something like "college bed lofts" for either pictures or sites selling them.

You may be able to do what you want with these.
I'm 6'2", and using these and the free metal bedframe that comes with a mattress, the bed came to slightly above my waist. A bed with real legs would probably come to the height you describe.

Ahh, I miss the days of having tons of storage under my bed.

I'd check out childrens' furniture places as kids rooms tend to need a lot of storage. Also Ikea.
