Doctor in D.C.?

Seeking a patient-recommended GP or internist for a mid-twenties female in Washington, D.C. Recommendations of actual doctors OR places where I can find those recommendations (a la dr-oogle for dentists) welcome.

I'm in good health, but come from a family where cholesterol and blood-pressure monitoring is a must. In the two years I've lived in DC I've haphazardly chosen a variety of doctors for immediate needs (yearly exams, strep throat), but never anyone I totally clicked with--or anyone that really delved into my family history or my general activities.

Ideally, I'd prefer a doctor/doctors in a group that accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield, that can performs lab tests in house, that is happy to be available by phone, good record with emergency day-of appointments, and really tailors their exams/preventive care. I live in DC, but work in Arlington, have a car and am happy taking the metro. I'm really hoping to find someone/some place I can stay with for a long time for most general medical needs (funny that I feel like I'm asking too much!).

I never find the Washingtonian "top docs" to be all that credible (they're compiled based on doctor, not patient, surveys), so if you've got a source of good recommendations or a super-hero doctor of your own--thanks in advance!

I liked my first visit with this doctor. She was very personable, talked with me about my history for some time, and made a number of recommendations for non-drug solutions, which I appreciated. The clinic she's affiliated with has phone-in hours although I have not taken advantage of them.

I loved my doctor when I lived in DC. Her name is Dr. Karen Myers and her office is on 20th Street between L & M. I can be more accurate if need be. If so, email me via my profile.

I like Darcy Hansen, who is near Farragut Square. Phone # is 202-223-6199. She has a solo practice, and lab tests aren't in-house, but the Quest lab is in the same building.

In particular, she is really good at listening and asking questions, and spending enough time to get to the bottom of any problems rather than trying to hurry you out the door.

I have some ongoing health issues, and I like that she is willing to be flexible about treatment options (i.e., if one med is causing bad side effects for me, she tries to figure out alternatives rather than telling me to "just deal with it" which I have heard from other doctors).

I've been going to Dr. Lin (M) at GIMG in Arlington for a couple years and he's been good, although as a relatively healthy person, I haven't tested him much. He's also pretty young, so he'll probably be around for a while. They have a number of doctors at GIMG and on-site blood work. My girlfriend sees Dr. Min (F) at the same place and I think she likes her as well.

I settled on that office because a few of their doctors are in fact on the Washingtonian "top docs" list. Waiting times have varied from 10 minutes (usually) to (if I recall correctly) an hour at the worst, which was once.

Looks like amber_dale, above, goes to the same practice. We should all have a GIMG meetup. ;-) Beer and physicals!
