Do I need Flash Media Server to capture and encode Webcam video using Flash?

Trying to research capturing webcam video using Flash..Do I need Flash Media Server to record and encode Webcam video, or can I do it just using what is supplied with Flash 8 Professional?

There's also Red5, currently under development, though I have NFI whether it's deployable yet.

FLV is the Flash video format. Flash Video Encoder included with Flash Pro should be able to encode your videos without much trouble. (unless they are in some unusual format) You can also use ffmpeg to transcode to FLV from any of its supported formats to an flv, and if you tweak it enough you can get great results, but for the minimum of fuss go with what's included in Flash 8 Pro.

Alternately, I think you can probably use Youtube's Quick Capture or something like Flixn to save it as a .flv, and then use a tool like Video Downloader to save it from the website once it's been posted... although that might be a little too complicated.
