Same day delivery for new furniture in Chicago?

Has anyone ever experienced having their furniture delivered to their house/apartment on the date of purchase in the Chicago area? Where can I shop that will do this?

I am currently in the purgatory between college and the real world and would like to furnish my apartment before my job starts. I would like to buy furniture while I am at my new apartment in Chicago over the weekend (so I guess 1-2 day delivery would work as well....that is if stores do delivery on Saturdays/Sundays). Google-fu found some adverts online for same day delivery, but in the NYC area. I have no idea how common same-day delivery is as I've never really owned new furniture. I'm willing to/can afford to pay the delivery fees. The furniture I'm looking for is a bed (priority), sofa (priority), and coffee table/end tables.

Mattress stores, at least, will pretty much always do same-day delivery of things they have in stock. For other things, I think it might be more unusual. Crate and Barrel, for instance, takes a week or so to deliver furniture.

Ikea delivers next day in Chicago. I used them for delivery ($50 additional) last August and they came exactly when they said they would - on a Saturday.

Oh, and for the record, I purchased my furniture at the Ikea in Schaumburg. I am not sure if Joliet delivers.

A friend achieved this by calling for a taxi and requesting that they send a van.

Um... You must have some idea of where you want to shop - why don't you call around town and ask different stores about their delivery times?

My experience with Field's (er.. . now Macy's) was that it took a week or more to get my sofa and another week to get the matching ottoman (which they forgot on the first trip.)

If you purchase an item off the "floor" or is in "the back" your chances of same-day delievery are greater. Often furniture has to be ordered and shipped from a warehouse.

Can you get a man-with-a-van and hit the flea markets? You'll get nicer pieces that have history, craftsmanship, and individual style. And if you're lucky you'll get it all done in one Saturday morning (assuming the markets in Chicago are vaguely similar to the ones in New York that I'm familiar with).

One great place to try is Fields (now Macy's) furniture warehouse at Pulaski and Diversey - it's pretty much all their furniture at about 1/3 or 1/2 of the price. They have a huge selection (about a football field size) of couches and a very large number of bedframes / mattresses / tables / etc. Pretty much everything. I know they deliver but I'm not sure about same day - ince it's individual closeout pieces everything they have is in-stock and available immediately, so you could always go the "guy with a van" route from Craigslist and pick them up yourself if they can't schedule a delivery. I can't imagine that it would be more than 1-2 day delivery, they want to get rid of the stuff as fast as you want to get it, so if you go in the morning you should have a good chance.

This just in: I just heard a TV commercial for "The Roomplace at Harlem Furniture", which was advertising next day delivery.
