Should I call about a job, again?

There's a job I really, really want. I spoke with HR today and I was told that any decisions could be made starting next week. Should I call again next week?
I submitted my resume last week for this position. Today, I called to do a follow up and managed to briefly talk to someone in HR about the position. I was told that there was a a big response and that the hiring manager is reviewing resumes. The manager probably won't be making any decisions until next week at the earliest. Unfortunately, no one in my "network" has any connections to this company.
Besides sitting on pins and needles, what should my next step be? Should I call again next week in addition to my job search or should I forget it and keep on with my search?

Do you mean decisions on who to call in for interviews, or decisions on hiring altogether?
I think the best bet is to write a thank you note to the HR person you spoke to - thank them for your time and mention that you are very interested in having the chance to interview or very interested in the position.
Keep on with your search either way though. Casting a wide net is the best way to handle a job search.

Seconding tastybrains , yes follow them up to show your interest, and yes look other places too.

I agree with tastybrains, write a thank you note. This has landed my partner and my sister-in-law jobs they would not otherwise have been offered. It also puts you in the good books for next time, should this time not work out.

Just be sure to not BADGER them. Hahaha. ha. heh.
Thank you notes are always nice. And a follow-up call. But not more than one call per HR person (unless they say "call me back on Friday").

What kind of job are you applying for? I suspect Cuke's associates weren't going for a tech job. I've never worked at a tech company where HR had any actual say on hiring; they don't know if you are technically qualified, they'll trust the hiring manager who said 'no'.

Basically, what you want to do is imagine what you would do if you had a really good offer from someplace else, and were merely checking back because you wanted the job for other reasons. Because, you know, you have this really good offer from someplace else, and you were just wondering...

That's what I'd do. Not that I know anything. I've interviewed a couple people, though, and I like it when someone comes back to check, as long as they aren't over the top with it (every day). It shows interest. A week is a good waiting period.
