Can I use the key from an English version of Microsoft Office 2003 Small Business Edition to install the French version from the discs?

Probably not. The keys are usually language-dependant. Technically, though, you could probably obtain a serial number from a cracks/warez site, and since you own the software, it would be legal. Of course, IANAL.

I doubt you could use that office key in any case, one wrong number/letter in the serial usually makes the thing fail, so I don't see exactly why it would work cross-languages.

...Or use OpenOffice if that is an option and you really depend on the software being in French.

yeah, odin's right. different language, different product, different license. it'd be like trying to say you have the rights to kanye west's album in espanol because you bought it in english.
