leaving do or don't?

Further to this post, I'm even more sick of the bedsit I'm renting. What are my options in terms of getting out?

I've already expressed my desire to move out to the landlord, this was not recieved too well, so reasoning is out of the question. It's going to be a case of finding someone else to move in on top of finding somewhere else to move into.

What repurcussions could I expect if I just up and leave without doing so?

I'm on a 12 mo. shorthold(?) contract, with a 6mo. break clause. paying £411pm

Shelter's web page has a host of useful information, including What if I just walk away?

I'm not an expert in anything, but I've rented lots. Experience suggests you will probably have to find someone to replace you. Yes, it's a hassle, but it's a pretty common thing to have to do. Have you tried places like moveflat?

Oh, and in case you never got the bed sorted out... Are there any standards for furniture safety?

What kind of deposit have you had to give? Losing that is probably the only repurcussion you'll face. That's what it's there for - it's the only power that landlords hold over you.
That seems like pretty low rent though, for London. Chances are you could find someone to take it off your hands, and transfer the deposit.
Best of luck, anyway, I hope this works out for you.

Hi mate. Just a word of warning. I left a house of 4 3 months into a 9 month contract (in the UK). We got taken to court by the letting agent and I paid off the contract before it got that far. Expensive mistake.

Saying that, a friend of mine left a one bed place and faced no problems. I guess because they could re-let straight away.
