Outlook sorting troubles.

Outlook help! How do I get outlook to display the actual email address of the sender instead of just the default "from" field that displays the name associated with the address?
Response by poster: I'm actually looking for the actual e-mail address field to display all the time so that I can sort by it.

Not sure if you've found an answer. I managed to find a way to do it, but it takes some work.
Go to this page. Copy the CFG file (the part in italics) and paste it into a text file named anything you want but with the .CFG extension. Like email.cfg.
Thank go to this page and follow the instructions after the CFG file that will tell you how to add the column into your inbox.
I did this and it sort of worked. Mail massages from people in my organization showed the X.400 address instead of the SMTP address, which is what you're looking for. However, for people outside my organization it shows the smtp address. Maybe the cfg file could be edited, but I don't know how to do it.
I don't see a way to do this from within Outlook without a customization like that.

Response by poster: Thanks for the help bDiddy - i'm going to give it a shot as i think the SMTP address info might help too.

Can't you just edit how they're processed under Outlook Contacts? I'm not at work, and don't use it at home, but I seem to remember that that's the way I've done it. Good luck.

Response by poster: Meep I'm not seeing how to do it using contacts (unless the person you're receiving the email from is a contact). bDiddy's explanation worked perfectly once I realized that I had to drop the new cfg file into the same folder as the other CFGs.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you were talking about mail from non-contacts. I usually have problems with the way my contacts have set themselves up and have to tweak them.
Glad to hear you got the fix, tho. :)

I'm not sure how to do the former, but if you just want to find out the address on a particular message, double click on the name when the message is open.
