Help with gmail on firefox?

I give up. Question about gmail opening in the same window then closing when I send the message. Using Firefox.

I swear I'm usually good at figuring this stuff out on my own. Here's an example, but please note this does not just happen on Craigslist. This is just the most recent example.

On Craigslist when you click the anon email link, it opens in the same window (so I tried to figure out a way to change that, but couldn't). Right clicking DOES NOT give the option of "open in new window" or new tab.

So a gmail message pops up in the window I was using to view Craigslist, and if I compose and send that email, the window closes and I have to open Firefox again, go to Craigslist again, and start my search again. Annoying.

I've tried searching for a way to change Firefox's "link properties" and came up short. Tried to search google/gmail for a way to force gmail to always pop up in a new window, no luck. Any help? Thanks!

Best answer: Have you changed anything in Tools > Options > Tabs?

What are you using to send mailto: links to Gmail in the first place? I'm pretty sure it either requires a Firefox extension, or to have Gmail Notifier or Google Talk installed to get it to do that.

Whatever it is, there might be an option in that to get it to open in a new window.

I was going to suggest that, too. Also, it may be an extra step, but you can always right-click on the mailto link and copy it, then open a new tab and paste (with Mouse Gestures installed, this is pretty quick and painless).

I have the firefox extensions Tab Browser Preferences and tab mix plus installed.

I think this will give you the options that you want. I can choose where tabs open. Actually, it's probably the first extension listed that will do the trick!

Response by poster: Erp. That was too easy, iconomy! I was searching Firefox Help using "link(s)" and "window" so I didn't find the tab thing. Switched it to "open links from other applications in a new window." Fixed. I already have Notifier and Talk installed/enabled.

PS - I miss the sleeping puppy from your profile page. I used to look at it during rough days at work!

Hee. I'll find it and put it back for you. Glad it was an easy fix.

TMP is definitely the way to go, I don't even use TBP anymore.
