Dead computer monitor recycling? [more inside]

I recently had a large 22" monitor die on me. I was wondering if anyone had any information on getting it recycled? I haven't been able to find any good options locally - the monitor's size/weight and my vehicle prevent me from simple carting it to the next scheduled "Hazardous Waste Collection" here in LA.

Can anyone recommend any recycle by mail options? The only one I know of is Dell's Recycling Program, and I was wondering if there were any other alternatives.

Tandy (Radio Shack) has/had a program in place (I cannot find a link, but I magine you can just call your local). I recently got them to take away a lot of equipment for free. the rub was I think they were losing money on the deal and have begun to charge. I am sure the fee is small enough to be worth paying on a single monitor, and it is nice to do the right thing. Getting yourself a flat screen to replace it is even better cause there is less of the nasty inside of those, and you will lessen the radiation bath you have been swimming in.
