The Three Hares - A Curiosity Worth Regarding

I have been trying to find a copy of this beautiful book ( https://www.chrischapmanphotography.co.uk/hares/page8.htm ) for years, on and off, and I'm at my wits end.

It's sold out and out of print, I figure there must be some floating around in Southern England but I have not been able to locate them. So, I randomly thought I could submit the problem to MeFi's hivemind: some of you in the UK may have seen it in a bookshop which does not have a website? Or own it and don't read it anymore and may be ready to sell it to some French guy desperate to read it? It's a message in a bottle at this point :) Can you help me find the unfindable?

It looks like you missed an eBay listing by about two weeks.

Given that it appears to have sold for $175 USD I suspect you’re out of luck as far as just finding a used copy around.

Interesting! I'll keep an eye out. My local second-hand bookshop is of the densely-packed-labyrinth-of-shelves variety and almost certainly doesn't list its stock online, so it's exactly the kind of place you're thinking of.

Guessing you'll have seen this, but just in case - there's one chapter available (legitimately) on the Devonshire Association's website, to be read in an embedded viewer or downloaded as a PDF: Friend or Foe? Three Hares in Medieval Devon and Beyond.

Have you sent in a form to express interest in a second printing? I wouldn't recommend trying to trick them but you could also encourage any friends or libraries who want to buy it to send in forms too.

Response by poster: @ManyLeggedCreature : I did know about that chapter available for free, I read it a few years ago and it only increased my interest for the whole book.

@SaltySalticid : I did send a form and even had the audacity to contact the author to know if he would mind selling me a spare copy he might have laying about, no luck. I didn't think about stuffing the ballot, however, and it may be well worth trying at this point. I must not be the only poor soul trying to read this book.

@Tell Me No Lies : I am aware of that listing, I saw it when I randomly started to search for the book again this week-end. These hares are taunting me. As for the price, I would have gladly paid the $200 with shipping.

Worldcat indicates that it's being held by 13 libraries, most of which are in Great Britain but two of which (The Cleveland Institute of Art and North Carolina State University) are in the US. Any possibility of working with your local library to get an interlibrary loan so that you can at least read it?

You can also save keyword searches on Alibris, Ebay, and Live Auctioneers so that if it comes up again you'll get an alert.

Go one further and create an alert with a search engine you like that provides the means to do so. Good luck!

(I'm curious what the author told you when you contacted them; seems a bit churlish not to help out such a strong interest. When you obtain a copy, it would be great to hear more about it. I'm mildly irked that the image on the pictured fragment doesn't follow the triad of colors for the flower/fruit at the ends of the plant stalk.)

It's on eBay, slightly cheaper. Mint condition. Good Luck.
