Animated Music Album

I stumbled upon "Sturgil Simpson Presents Sound and Fury" on Netflix and really loved it. It is essentially a loosely connected collection of animated anime music videos, and each video is based on a song from the Album. Can you recommend something similar besides just watching the available music videos from any album? Metallica's "Through the never" comes to my mind, also "Yellow Submarine".

Follow a music video director. Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze come to mind, but anyone you like will do. Maybe pick one of the directors of those Simpson videos. You can find some good thematic, visual and musical unity in a collection of music videos by focusing on the director rather than the band.

The Directors Label series of DVDs sounds like it would be perfect, but I'm not sure if it's streaming anywhere.

Discovery, by Daft Punk may fit the request.

Aria (1987) is something like this, with 10 directors and 10 opera arias, making 10 short films, tied together loosely into a full length feature.

This Is Stina Nordenstam, never officially released except as a promo DVD.

Blondie's Eat to the Beat video album, issued on VHS. (A YouTube recreation, not a rip of the actual tape, sadly.)

Back in the day there was a guy releasing 3D ray traced music videos of bizarre instruments synchronized to custom music; here's a YT playlist of Animusic.

No plot, but I remember being blown away by these when first released so many years ago.

It's more of a brief mixtape or EP, but Tierra Whack's Whack World is loose and visually composed all at once.

I’m not sure if Gorillaz’ oeuvre counts since their videos are more “music videos with the cartoon characters from the band” than “extended narrative set in one universe set to music from the albums” the way the Sturgill Simpson videos are, but maybe worth a shout if you’re not already aware.

Queens of the Stone Age collaborated with artist Boneface to make a 15 minute animated film which is basically three connected music videos for their album Like Clockwork

Big Grams did the same with Adult Swim for two songs (first song featuring Run the Jewels): Born to Shine + Run for Your Life

(Content and trigger warnings: cartoon violence, death, drugs, nudity, gambling, drinking, etc.)
