Please suggest more jazz *albumsI* like this

I'm quite smitten with the theme music from the show "Monsieur Spade". I know the score is by Carlos Rafael Rivera, but the rest of the soundtrack, nor his other work that I've sampled, isn't a similar enough style. Is it jazzy blues? Bluesy jazz?

Most importantly, who has one or more entire albums with this style of mellow, delicious, plaintive music?

It's the first track here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teas1byt09U

Here's a few things the track "Sam Spade" off that YouTube link made me think of:

- The band Calexico has a sort of California desert slash Mexican vibe to a lot of what they're doing. They've got a number of albums in that vein. Here's Harness the Wind.

- More Spanish tinged, but gorgeous is the Miles Davis album "Sketches of Spain." Here's Solea.

- I'm pretty well-versed in Miles Davis and he's got a lot of stuff from the late 60s/early 70s that are pretty atmospheric and awesome. The collection called "The Complete In A Silent Way Sessions" has this song, Early Minor.

- Cymande's self-titled album is incredible. Here's Dove.

- Bobby Hutcherson's "Happenings" is a lot more straightforward jazz than most of the above, but his vibraphone playing lends itself to a kind of atmospheric tone that strikes me as reminiscent. Here's Rojo (Maiden Voyage off this album also incredible).

It's no one thing, but it's reminding me of Morricone's Maddalena soundtrack

I like GamblingBlues initial Calexico recommendations. Along those lines, you might look at Bill Frisell's Blues Dream release. Less dark and mysterious, but plenty of plaintive. Daniel Lanois' Belladonna release is also good, and I like William Tyler's gauzy sound as well.

If it's really about the trumpet for you, I'd also recommend Kenny Wheeler and Tomasz Stanko - both have plenty of atmospheric/plaintive stuff in this vein. They've both released stuff on the ECM label, which has a lot of rich world-tinged instrumental music that's well-arranged and tasteful. For something a bit more sinister/hammy, early Barry Adamson (Oedipus Schmoedipus or As Above, So Below). He appears on the Lost Highway soundtrack as well.

I'm not sure if whole albums of his work will meet the criteria, but check out soundtracks by Mark Isham, particularly The Moderns.

I don't know who specializes in this, but a lot of jazz cats touched on it. Here's a couple that come to mind:

Gato Barbieri: Europa

Herb Alpert: Ladyfingers

May not be quite right, but the first thing I thought of when I listened to your youtube link was the soundtrack of LA Confidential. Get 15 seconds into the first bit of this video, for instance. Also, the section For Justice (← link to about 2:44 in the video) and Lynn's Bedroom (← 8:04).

Followed some comments in that LA Confidential video and Chinatown (which I always felt LA Confidential really wanted to be) had the same composer. Similar feel, though it's been a long while since I've watched Chinatown and didn't remember. Soundtrack suite here.

Someone also mentioned Gerry Mulligan, and Night Lights might be your thing, or maybe some of these Chet Baker songs will lead you in the right direction?

We used to tune into Chuck Mangione for more or less this kind of vibe - most famously this but in general just about any album. But you might particularly look at Children of Sanchez.
