Is this song quoting another song specifically?

Pelican from the semi-recent Islands record has a bit around at 2:25 that sounds to me like it might be a lot like maybe a Gorillaz track? But I can't place it exactly and it has been kind of a small vexation on and off since I got the album (which incidentally is really nice, strong recommend if you like that sort of thing). If anyone recognizes and can point to the thing it sounds like I would be very happy to know what it was. Or maybe it's some kind of weird musical Mandela effect? Perhaps we'll never know.

There are a number of spots in the track that sound like they're either referencing DJ Shadow's "Building Steam with a Grain of Salt" or pulling a sample from the same original track, Jeremy Storch's "I Feel a New Shadow." Shadow is a deity in create-digger circles, and the album Endtroducing in particular, so that would be a reference that made a lot of sense.

I don't think this is much help in this case, but whosampled.com is good for questions like this.
